That's what we have to wear our new turnout gear and crawl through the dirt and stuff so we don't look TOO pink for the Jan 21 Structure Fire Course!

Christmas at Wolfskin

Today was a special day at WVFD - our PPE arrived. For the last 300 years we've been wearing hand-me-downs NOT THAT WE'RE COMPLAINING, but we do look weird, and other firefighters are nice about it but don't want to get too close!

So you can imagine how excited we were at this particular fashion event. We spent a couple of happy hours inventorying and trying on all the turnout gear. Not pictured here are Cary and your photographer behind the camera, me. Although I did get dressed out!

Before all the fun started, here's (back to front) Jim Kitchens, Jon Huff, John Wampler and FC Phyllis Jackson making sure everything is there.

And finally last but definitely not least, our Firefighter of the Year, Ed Frey. That's his answer to my question "Ed! Are you wearing any suspenders?"

First Business Meeting of the New Year

Last night, Thursday, was our business meeting. I won't regale you with the details but will point out that everyone was antsy to get at the fresh arrivals of the SCBA equipment. You might think the left pic is of the Creature from the Green Lagoon, but the right pic will convince you that it's Fire Chief Phyllis Jackson demonstrating how you can actually talk through the new face masks!



Phyllis demonstrates the proper way to put on an SCBA, while Ed, Cary, and Jim marvel. Not shown is Phyllis' little dance she did to show us how amazingly light the carbon fiber tanks are, compared to the heavy heavy steel tanks we've been using.
